If you're a sushi lover visiting Salt Lake City, two restaurants consistently rise to the top of the list: Takashi and Monomaru Hand Roll Sushi.

Takashi is arguably Salt Lake City's most well-known sushi restaurant. Known for its exceptionally fresh fish, creative specialty rolls, and lively atmosphere, it has become a staple of the downtown dining scene and a favorite among both locals and visitors.

For a different experience, Monomaru Hand Roll Sushi specializes in hand rolls made fresh to order and served immediately. The restaurant offers a more intimate and interactive dining experience, allowing guests to enjoy the simplicity and quality of expertly prepared hand rolls.

One important thing to know before you go: neither restaurant accepts reservations. Both operate on a first-come, first-served basis and are extremely popular, especially during evenings and weekends.

Insider Tip: If you're hoping to get into Takashi, arrive around 4:30–4:45 p.m. and join the line before they open for dinner service. You'll often be seated during the first round. If not, put your name on the waitlist and walk a few minutes to Post Office Place for a cocktail while you wait. It's one of downtown Salt Lake City's hidden gems and a great way to start the evening.

Whether you're looking for an elevated sushi dinner at Takashi or craving fresh hand rolls at Monomaru, both restaurants are worth adding to your Salt Lake City dining itinerary.
